Title: From the biologic sample to digital pathology

We describe the path followed by a biologic sample (such as cells, organoids, animal tissue, human biopsy), from its initial processing to the digital image acquisition, and the role of Leica’s platforms in this workflow. We show the potential of automation in various histological staining techniques, both basic and advanced, such as IHC, IF and ISH, both single and multiplex. We then discuss recent advances in digital pathology: the advent of digital pathology increasingly encourages the automation of the digital acquisition of the slide, which through latest generation scanners assist the researcher/pathologist in transforming the practice of pathology, potentially exploiting also artificial intelligence for the diagnosis.
