Abstract

In response to the complex requirements to manage microscopy and other data at the Ernst Ruska Centre at Forschungszentrum Jülich, we developed a modular data management system that builds on standardized and well-established components connected by standardized interfaces. It enables internal and external collaboration, data import and export, ingest from instruments, access using a wide range of tools, and integration of large-scale raw data with ELNs and other external tools. Only a few custom components and modifications are added for the required functionality. That makes the system familiar for users and admins, extensible, customizable, robust and simple. The requirements analysis, implementation, and practical experiences from the first year of ramp-up and production use are shared in this contribution.
